LIAS Multiplier event CAD UK

On Friday 27th September, Community Action Dacorum departments hosted a Volunteer Recruitment Fair.

The aim of the fair was to

  • Inform the local community about the large variety of voluntary roles we have in the borough of Dacorum and to hopefully get some people to sign up to volunteer!

  • What “Local and International Active Seniors (LIAS)” project was

  • Why people volunteer

  • What benefit the volunteers and NGOs in the project got from the training progamme provided in the project.

We had over 50 people in attendance at the fair and we were joined by 8 other charities: Age UK Dacorum, AViD Arts Venue in Dacorum, Dacorum Mencap, Frogmore Paper Mill, the Hospice of St Francis, Rectory Lane Cemetery Berkhamsted, Sunnyside Rural Trust and the Willow Foundations. There were also representatives from some other Community Action Dacorum departments: Community Transport and Radio Dacorum.

All charities present gave a little talk about their charity and the kinds of roles they have available. This demonstrated just how many different things you can do as a volunteer! Like roles that are based in offices such as an Admin Assistant for the Hospice of St Francis; roles that will get you out in the fresh air such as a Gardening Assistant for Sunnyside Rural Trust; roles that will engage you in local history such as a Tour Guide for Frogmore Paper Mill or a Genealogy Researcher for Rectory Lane Cemetery; and many, many more!

What worked very well in the event was the chance to network and to talk to people about want they wanted to get from volunteering.
